Malcolm Dinkele, managing partner of land surveying company Wall Marriott Paul & Borgen, provides a fascinating historical overview of the company, which was established in 1890 in Durban.

“Wall Marriott Paul & Borgen is the oldest firm of Professional Land Surveyors in Durban, having been established by Mr. J H E Wall in 1890. Of interest is that the bank account he opened with Barclays Bank in 1890 was operational (at FNB) until 2004,” he says.

“The entire firm was seconded into the armed forces during World War 11. Geoff Marriott attained the rank of Colonel being one of the senior officers responsible for the mapping of North Africa for the allied forces. Recognizing the need for transformation, the firm has employed a number of previously disadvantaged Professional Land Surveyors in training, and a Town Planning Technician in training, with a view to bringing these young people into the senior management (and ownership) of the firm in due course.
